About Feleica Patrice Myers Irick
Felecia Patrice Myers Irick was known as Patrice or “Trice” to her parents, brother, husband, church family and relatives. At a young age, she joined her family church, Salley Chapel United Methodist Church, now Edisto Fork United Methodist Church, Orangeburg, SC.
Felecia received her elementary and secondary education training in Orangeburg County public school system and graduated with honors from Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School in 1993. Felecia was active in her high school, where she was a member of the marching band and elected to play the xylophone to wear a beret during games and performances.
Felecia began working a part-time job while she was in high school. Even though her primary station was in a hidden section of the store, Felecia would wear makeup and high heels to greet her customers and express her sense of fashion.
Her quest for education led her to matriculate at the University of South Carolina (UofSC) Columbia, SC, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English in three years. While attending UofSC, Felecia became a member of the Theta Gamma Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. in April 1994. She was known as “Hollywood” and personified the line name daily with a style that could never be duplicated and always arriving in time to make an entrance. To fulfill her desire to be an exceptional educator, Felecia became a double alumna of the University of South Carolina completing a Master of Arts in teaching with a specialty in English in 1999.
Felecia loved the English language and was a dynamic creative writer. She shared those talents with her students when she began her career as an 8th grade English teacher at Dent Middle School in Columbia, SC, in 2000. Her teaching career spanned more than six years to include inspiring young minds at Ridge View High School, Columbia, SC, and Briggs Chaney Middle School, Silvers Springs, MD.
She emerged as a leader and pursued opportunities in administration where she felt she could have greater impact and improve the quality of education. Towards that end, she embarked on a career in school administration. She served as, Resident Principal at Hampstead Hill Academy, Baltimore, MD, Principal at Westport Academy, Baltimore, MD, Director of Culture and Academic Support at Cesar Chavez Public Charter Schools for Public Policy, Washington, DC and joined New Leaders, Inc., a national organization based in New York, that identifies talented educators who believe that all kids can excel and equips them to transform schools and students’ lives.
As a lifelong learner, Felecia completed additional training programs, courses in administration and supervision at Towson State University in 2005 and was enrolled at Ithaca College pursuing a Performance Improvement Management Certification Program. .
During her six year career at New Leaders, Inc. Felecia committed herself to a culture of excellence for high quality program implementation across all District and Charter partnerships she helped launch. In July 2017, because of her exemplary leadership and dedication, Felecia was promoted to Executive Director Program Implementation where she served until her untimely death in February 2020.
Felecia had a smile that could warm the coldest heart and a way to charm you into creating lasting friendships as well as gaining agreement on her ventures.
Felecia was an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and received her Silver Star Membership Award in 2019, representing 25 years of membership in this international service organization.
